Google Adsense Launches Behavioral Targeting

Published by cijaye under Uncategorized

Yes, that’s right.  And they are not the first.  If you have a facebook account – you might be one of the lucky ones that Facebook has been beta testing this on. Except – Facebook has a HUGE advantage with this because they can do it from within their own interface – WHILE you are writing messages from your inbox, on walls, in groups etc.

What happens is simply this…(using Facebook as the example)

You update your status or create a message somewhere in FB about needing a good real estate agent in Vancouver…

Next thing you know – on the right side of the screen where FB is delivering ads….you become the target of ad’s by Vancouver Real Estate Agents, Brokers, MLS, Real Estate Info-Preneurs etc.

As long as you continue that topic of conversation – Facebook Ad’s of this nature / subject will continue to display for you.  It managed to get me to click on approx 20% more ad’s within Facebook than ever before – so I can see how Google’s interface can be quite similar. (Not to mention great for advertisers).

Eventually something is going to appeal to you – why?  Because it’s 100% targeted to what you are doing.

What Facebook has not done yet is given you the right to adjust what you do and do not want to see; they simply target you.  At least not that I can see.

Google Adsense on the other hand – seems to be willing to let you update this info via your Google Profile.  From an end user perspective – this may be heavily ignored – unless Google starts convincing you that you need a Google Account to avoid this stuff all together.

From an Advertisers perspective however – Behavioral Advertising could not be more exciting.  This means you basically get to follow in the footsteps of your market…you get to be their shadow.

Yes, that sounds a little creepy – and from an end users perspective it might be.  But…until the end user’s unite in avoiding their shadow(s)…you get to  move from behind them, to popping up in front of them from time to time with your highly targeted ad’s.

So…next time you are considering a new Google Adwords campaign…why not duplicate that campaign for Content – - and see where this NEW strategy gets you?

Where it may have never worked before – it might work exceptionally better now.

Have fun with it.
